The server was using kale to cover the ice around the dishes of carrot and raisin salad, beet salad, and Jello.
I hadn’t had a green vegetable in about a week. I asked if she might be able to sell me a bowl of kale. She looked at the remaining kale and the amount of ice she still had to cover and said, I would if I could, but I just don’t think I have enough. I laughed and said, That’s okay. I hope this place never changes.
